A few days ago, we learned that the Disney+ Falcon series and the winter soldier was watered down by censorship to reach a wider audience. Today, it is the turn of another Marvel production to see one of these modified scenes: it is Spider-Man, the 2002 film.

A sentence deemed homophobic deleted
In 2002 released Spider-Man, the very first film of the araign man released on the big screen. A film which had been hailed by criticism and which, even today, is considered one of the best Spider-Man films by fans of the superhero. However, today, the character embodied by Tobey Maguire on the screen faces a mishap. Indeed, the feature film was entitled to a new broadcast on a British channel, but some viewers have noticed a small change.
The British channel ITV2 took the initiative to withdraw a dialogue line deemed homophobic from Spider-Man from 2002 for its broadcast on April 23 so as not to offend the minorities. Indeed, in the original version of the Film by Sam Raimi, during the sequence that stages a wrestling fight in the first part of the feature film, we can hear Peter Parker say to his opponent “He is cute your jersey. It’s your husband who ‘has offered ?”. Today, this line of dialogue has therefore been deleted as you can see by looking at the extract available below.
Obviously, This modification has applauded as much as the fans have been annoyed. even if this modification does not change the understanding of the plot or even the scene, some say in particular that the joke has not been understood by itv2. They specify that Peter Parker’s opponent is a macho and probably homophobic character, and that this sentence allows Spider-Man to enter the game of his opponent to annoy him, which seems to work.
Note that this censorship only concerns only the version broadcast by the ITV2 channel, which means that the original film has not been modified, whether in England or in our regions.
